Merikerttu Mutala studied her BA Hons degree on Music Theatre in Falmouth University (now AMATA) in 2011-2014.
She has MA degree on Theatre research in Helsinki University (2016). In Helsinki University her other interests have been Musicology, Arts Management and Cultural Studies.
She was awarded with the Scholarship of Music when she graduated in 2008 from Kallio High School, which is specialized in performative arts.
She has worked as a self-employed practitioner-artist-trainer in since 2018.
She has worked in Loimaa theatre as children's and young people's theatre and music director since 2014.
In 2021, a pop duet LEHMUS releases its' first single Se jota kaipaan (The One I'm Longing For).
In 2019-2020 she made her debut as a drama musical director, composer and lyricist in amateur adults' production called Vaietut Muistot (Silenced Memories).
In 2017-2018 Loimaa Theatre was selected to participate into National Young Stage project with a newly-written youth play Carmina (Gunilla Hemming), in which Mekku was co-director, sound designer and composer.
In 2016-2017, Mekku composed her first musical Kaksi kylän lintua (The Two Birds of the Village), where the young people themselves devised the text and lyrics.
In the Spring 2016 her first devised new music theatre solo performance Meren kautta (The Sea Link) was performed.
In the Autumn 2016 she facilitated a performance, Talven taikaa (Winter's Magic), for 0-3 year old babies and children.
Mekku has been active in international and intercultural work in Loimaa theatre (Erasmus+) and Loimaa Municipality (Twin town activities).
She is also dedicated to work with asylum seekers and refugees who live in Loimaa area. Loimaa theatre has got several national and regional fundings to support this work.
